Tapas Trail Alicante Spain
Alicante is a spanish city full of mediterranean flavours. This tour is the best choice to discover the authentic gastronomy of the region in the same way that locals do: trying some tapas whilst you stroll through the old town. Since the 1960s Alicante, the capital of the Costa Blanca, is one of the most popular holiday destinations for international tourists in Spain, its main attraction being the long sandy beaches. The Market Hall is a gorgeous Art-Noveau bulding dating back to the early 1900’s where you can feel the real atmosphere of Alicante. Monday to Saturday it is bustling with activity; fresh fruits and vegetables, local meat and the best fish of the bay of Alicante are pursached here even by some of the famous restaurants in town. Here you get some information from your guide about the Spanish Civil War, as this place also witnessed a deadly air raid that took place in the last months of the conflict.
There will be time to explore the Postiguet beach, the magnificent marble-tiled promenade Explanada de España, the City Hall Square and the narrow streets in the old town.
ITINERARY
From the cruise terminal we start our walking tour along the seafront to Explanada de España. It is considered to be the traditional postcard of Alicante so it is a must to take some pictures here. Then we continue to the City Hall Square to learn some stories about this baroque palace. Our first tapas stop is going to take place at a store where you can find all the specialities of the region, including the famous Nougat. We will taste some of them as well as a local wine or beer. Strolling through the streets of downtown Alicante we will reach the Central Market, where your guide will lead the way among the market stalls to tell you many stories of this unique place. Back in the old town we will enjoy a refreshing drink and 2 traditional tapas at a cosy terrace surrounded by history.
