city council of cartagena spain, tourist services ABC Tour GuidesWALKING TOUR CARTAGENA

The spanish Cartagena is one of the oldest cities of the whole mediterranean coastline, so this tour is going to show you the highlights of this fascinating city. It was founded with the name of Quart-Hadast, in the year 229 b. C. by Asdrúbal. It was just for a short period, as later came the Second Punic War and Romans dominated the city. From that period are the oldest remains of the city, The Punic Wall, which really deserves a visit. From there, we will go on to the top of Conception Hill, where the medieval castle is located and where we have the best views of the city and its harbour. To keep on discovering this three thousand year old city our next visit will be the fabulous Roman Theatre, the most visited museum of our area. Then, we will continue to admire the Art Nouveau buildings located in the downtown which are the result of mining at the outskirts of the city in the XIX Century and the prosperity brought by them.

ITINERARY

Coming out of the Cruise Terminal, your private guide will be waiting for you to start the tour. The first place we are going to visit is the Punic Wall Museum to learn about the foundation of Cartagena and the surprises hidden in this site. Our second stop is going to be a wonderful vantage point and castle standing on the Conception Hill, where you will see why we are an important military city since the XVIII century. From there we will move to the Downtown to walk inside the Roman Theatre Museum, where columns, capitels, altarpieces and different items from the roman period will be enjoyed by all. Once we have seen the Theatre a walk through the main street is compulsory to be delighted with the Art Nouveau  Houses and the City Hall Building, the best examples of the XIX century city. Some free time will be given before we go back to the cruise terminal.
